The classic film Dracula is about a young lawyer named Jonathan Harker who goes to a murky dark village in Eastern Europe and stays with Count Dracula. The undead vampire, Count Dracula, imprisons Jonathan when he saw a photo of Harker’s fiancée, Mina Murray. Dracula thought it was his same bride who committed suicide years earlier, just in a different body. Count Dracula decides to go to London, cause havoc in the town, and seduce Mina Murray. However, conflicts arise when Dracula sucks the poor life out of Lucy Westerna, Mina’s close friend. Lucy’s friends and Mina then decide to try and kill Dracula.
The director of the film is Francis Ford Coppola. Coppola also directed other movies, one most well-known is The Godfather . However, Coppola was also an executive producer and he helped with the movie The Secret Garden. The film was based around the classic novel Dracula by Bram Stoker. Also, some of the actors who played the main characters are as followed: Count Dracula - Gary Oldman, Mine Murray - Winona Ryder, Jonathan Harker - Keanu Reeves, Lucy Westerna - Sadie Frost,…
The film and the novel have some very major differences. One of the differences is that in the novel, Dracula never saw a picture of what Jonathan Harker’s fiancée looked like. However, in the film it shows us that Dracula did in fact see a picture of Mina Murray and then made a decision to go to London and find her. The film and novel do have some similarities though as well. At the end of the novel you read about how Jonathan, Mina, and others kill Dracula. As well, in the movie Dracula dies too.
They way the characters looked in the film did not surprise me. It didn’t surprise me because I already knew that the time period was different then what it is now, therefore the clothes wouldn’t be as modern. However, since the characters in the novel and film were not very poor people, their clothes, make up, hair, and so on seemed to be what I began to visualize in the beginning.

A classic novel is a novel that can stand the test of time. However, to make a novel a classic, it has to have the following characteristics: Needs to be timely, but timeless. Needs to present what is really true, readable in its style, able to make connections, and will still be around years after it first appeared.
A classic needs to be timely, but timeless. This means that the novel expresses an influence during the time it was written. However, it also needs to deal with themes that touch cultures and most periods of history. The novel needs to present what is really true and readable in style: story of a classic is well developed which keeps the reader interested while also using characters that are profound, but seem real. Lastly, a classic novel needs to be able to make connections and still be around years later. A true classic must have been around for a while. All in all, classics show influences from other writers and other great works in literature.
Dracula is a classic novel. Dracula is a classic because it is timely; the time that it was written in affects the way that the characters talk and act and how the author writes. However, it is readable in style. "Where his body has gone why may not another body go?" Even though, the characters, setting, and actions are not as modern as today, Dracula is still readable.

Lucy Westenra is a nice, caring, and loving women. Lucy likes to help out with the elders and talk to them to keep them company. Lucy Westenra is a sweet, pretty looking women who has a nice soft "colour" (skin tone). However, Lucy also usually wears lawn frocks and always wears make up and blush.
I would be friends with Lucy Westenra. I would be friends with her because she is a strong, funny, and nice person. Also, one thing that she does that I happen to agree with is get other people's opinions, compare them to your own, then get your final decision.
Lucy fits in with the society around her because she acts and talks like all the other women around her. However, what sets Lucy and the other women apart, is her personality and her looks. Also, the clothes that she wears, sometimes lawn frocks, were in the time period that Dracula is based around.
One of the biggest decisions that Lucy had to make was which guy she wanted to marry. Three guys asked her to marry them in the same day, she had to choose only one. Her decision was surprising and funny in a way. I agree with who she chose because he was different then the average guy in England; He spoke slang, dressed differently, and was used to a different culture.

Bram Stoker wrote Dracula in first person and is a Gothic novel. He also describes everything in very great detail and uses imagery to get the reader closer to the novel. However, the writing and/or use of dialogue is authentic since the time period is not from now.
I like Bram Stoker's way of writing because it is creative, descriptive, and interesting. Also, because it was written in an authentic sense, the novel can get confusing. However, the way he uses imagery is different and unique.

The setting of Dracula affects the mood of the reader. Dracula's setting is based around a Gothic castle: dark, tall, and creepy. Also, the castle was built on a corner of a rock with windows that you could not reach, usually dark on the inside. The mood that the reader gets is creepy, scary, gloomy, and/or unique. Since the castle is different and is not luminescent, it affects the mood of the reader and the view of the story.
